
Hollywood actress Naomi Watts was selected to play late Princess Diana in a new film project of German director Oliver Hirschbiegel, said the production company headquartered in the UK.
Watts, who was born in Britain, and emigrated to Australia as a teenager, will play a major role in the film “Caught In Flight” on the last two years of Diana’s life before she was killed in a car crash in Paris in August 1997th year.
It is expected that a film will be about Diana’s numerous romances, including her affair with Pakistani surgeon Hasnat Khan in the last two years, which has gained wide publicity in the world.
Spokesman Ecisse Films production company could not say whether Diana’s affair with Dodi al-Fayed will also be shown in the film. Hirschbiegel is best known for directing “Der Untergang” the last days of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. “I am delighted that such an exceptional actress embodies warmth, humanity and compassion of such global icons such as Princess Diana,” said Hirschbiegel.
Watts, who starred in the movies “King Kong” and “Mulholland Drive“, said she was honored to play such an icon. “Princess Diana was revered throughout the world is looking forward to the challenge to play her character on the big screen,” said Watts, who says she feels equally Briton and Australian.
She was chosen for this role after the failure of talks with another Hollywood actress Jessica Chastain.
